One of the aspects of moving that unnerves most movers is the part where everything of the house has to be packed and loaded on to the moving truck. Everyone realizes the importance of strong packing, as otherwise things can break or get permanently damaged. Sometimes faulty packing can result in goods getting lost also.
To save on packing costs, which may be expensive for many families, people try to do it themselves. Packing, though seeming a difficult thing to do, can be learned through several tutorials offered free by moving and packing companies. Even when you know the exact quantity of packing materials you need for your house, there are packing supply companies who have ready to use calculators in their sites which help you choose the number of boxes you need and what types of boxes are suitable for which items in the household. Self-packing is also beneficial in another way. It can also mean that your belongings are safe and would not be pilfered with before and during the journey.
Packing is an art by itself and you too can learn it. There are some guiding rules and principles applicable both for packing and loading which are given below:
◾Dismantle bigger furniture like bed, dining table and dressing mirror if it is standing on a table. Smaller pieces are easier to pack. Invest in a mirror box according to its size and you do not have to invest in any other packing material for the mirror, as all relevant protection is already built-in.
◾Similarly for your kitchen and bedrooms, there are ready to use moving boxes available which makes packing for the rooms easier. For example kitchen boxes are made in such a way that it can withstand heavy items as well as accommodate odd sized pans and pots.
◾While loading the boxes on to the moving truck, keep the balance of the truck in mind. This means that both sides of the truck has to carry equal weight. Keep the largest and the heaviest boxes are at the bottom. Long and hardy items like the top of the dining table or the bed stead can be placed against the inside wall of the truck. Carpets and rugs should be rolled tightly and then taped securely. If possible lay them on the floor of the truck or place them erect.
◾Place the boxes carrying and fragile materials in such a way that they do not clash with each other or against other boxes during transit. Lighter boxes should be placed right on top.
◾Remember the tighter you pack and load the least chances of any damage during transit. Ensure that all the boxes are taped tightly.
◾Use edge protectors to protect the edges of tables, bureau etc.
The above suggestions should help you pack for your move.
